Magnolia x soulangeana

The most popular form of Magnolia widely planted in parks and gardens.

It has a long history originating from Japan but was developed in France early in the 19th century.

It has almost become synonymous with urban gardens in England.

Usually grown as a large shrub with a broad round habit the large white purple tinted tulip-like flowers appear in April and May before the arrival of foliage.

It tolerates heavy clay soils and is also moderately lime tolerant.

Again we buck the trend and grow this as a single stemmed tree as well as multi-stemmed

Mature heights and crown spread can vary depending on environmental conditions

Mature height: 5-10m

Mature spread: 4-8m
